In the case of this particular meeting, a Satellite Symposium of the 9th IUPHAR Congress in London, a decision was made to forego any major editorial organisation in the hope that this would expedite publication within months of the meeting. The contents should thus retain much of their freshness, originality and topicality. Besides, original papers are quite properly (though sometimes over-zealously) appraised for scientific methodology and analysis, but there has to be some parallel medium for the publication of ideas and speculation which might never pass a journal referee, and even for the publication of important negative or contradictory data which many journals would place low on their priority list for publication.
